TICC 2007-08 is headed to San Diego to present at the HP technology in the classroom conference. I (Kenton) have started an outline for our presentation. Please add to and revise as required so we can get our stuff together.

"Dress" Rehearsal is Thursday at 6 Pm in Advanced Lab

We aim to present chronologically, starting with preparing tablets for student use, then moving on to issuing tablets to students, then "a day in the life of a student tablet" (or a tablet student?), then finishing with a panel Q&A. Does this sound about right?

I've copied in stuff from the draft outline that Susan sent out, and commented on who we thought would coordinate each point.

  • Open-source software that specifically supports the use of Tablet PC features. The focus will be predominantly on Tablet-related Windows programs, but we will also discuss the utility of Linux and its functionality on the Tablet PC.

Journal, Journal Note Writer, Input Panel. PDF Writer (how we put out notes - Journal -> PDF Writer). Shared FAT32 Partition.

Imaging - UDP-cast, Clonezilla, Partition Image.

Nick will go over stuff similar to Erich's presentation. (including imaging) Also, Nick will talk about stuff like CellWriter, Xournal, etc. on the Linux side.

  • Other free and Windows-based resources that can enhance learning in a broad range of disciplines. We include pointers on day-to-day tasks, such as in-class presentation ideas and archiving class notes, as well as the wealth of subject-specific applets available on the Internet.

Kowalski's will cover web-based teaching applets. Also, talk with Michael about this.

  • Organizing and correlating the powerful abilities and tools that the Tablet PC provides, including system administration issues.

Why do our students get Admin access. If stuff breaks, stuff gets reimaged. Note using a BIOS password to prevent committee-irreversible student changes. Dr. Kowalski and Susan will talk about "student"-underwritten insurance.

  • The student perspective of using the power of Tablet PC to enhance learning (a panel discussion).

Dr. Kowalski/Susan ask a question, each of us answer. Gives an opportunity to show our different solutions to the same problem. Questions like: -How is the tablet most helpful in my day-to-day life. -Battery life vs. classes. (re: travel battery not recognized - link to wiki/forum) -Distractions in class (from faculty perspective) (doesn't add distractions, just changes it from sleeping in class to surfing the Web in class)

  • End with Q & A period to allow participants an opportunity to seek assistance on technical problems that are hindering their projects. This section will be near the end of the workshop, so that specific questions that are not of general interest to the audience can be deferred for one-on-one discussion after the workshop.

Please add material as you see fit.
