Linux

Linux is an Open Source operating system created by Linus Torvalds in 1991. It is based on Unix, and is generally distributed under the terms of the GNU/GPL License.

The Physics department at Mines uses Ubuntu, a distribution of Linux that is geared towards ease-of-use for the average desktop user.
