Mathematica beginners should start here---->. Fire up Mathematica. Click the upper right-hand "help" menu. Select tutorial. Work your way through this tutorial at your own pace.

Reading in the book. All of Chapter 1 should be essentially review. You can safely assume, however, that the sections that are the most important for 311 are the ones from which I assign homework. But I expect everyone to read all of Chapter 1.
