Todays class will follow directly pages 53-57 of the book. You need to be able to follows these derivations at every step and the book's treatment is sufficiently detailed for us.
One of the key new phenomena we will discuss today is tunneling--a purely quantum mechanical effect. Hence today's divertimento will show lots of examples of two key applications of tunneling: the scanning tunneling microscope and the Josephson junction.
Reading Assignment: Please read section 3.5 on the Probability Current. We will discuss this Monday.
