Don't be intimidated by the size of the book. As you can see from the syllabus, we will only be covering the first 5 or so chapters. I believe that you will find this book an invaluable tool later in your career. In fact, if you take the senior/graduate level version of the course, you may use the same book!
The book comes with a handy CD full of demos and videos. The demos have an audio commentary. Everything is written in Java and uses file formats which are accessible under Window, Mac and Unix. Just point your java-enabled web-browser to the index.html file in the root directory of the CD.
